About Uconia
Uconia is a construction technology company on a mission to turn static project schedules into dynamic, real-time operating systems. The platform connects master planning tools (Primavera P6, Asta, MS Project) with day-to-day execution on site, giving planners, operators and leadership a single source of truth across complex projects.
The product is trusted by large, enterprise-grade contractors running complex construction, pharmaceutical, manufacturing and infrastructure projects across Europe, with expansion into the US underway and pipeline developing in Southeast Asia. As the platform scales, so does the bar for quality - and the team responsible for it.
Role
We are looking for an Engineering Manager - Feature Engineering. This is a hands-on leadership role. You will split your time between coding, driving technical direction, and growing your team. You will report directly to the Head of Engineering and partner closely with the Platform & DevOps EM, Product, Design, and QA to plan, build, and ship the product features that power Uconia's mission.
You will own end-to-end feature delivery across backend, frontend, and mobile - setting engineering standards, making pragmatic architecture decisions, and ensuring your team ships reliable, well-tested software at a sustainable pace.
Scope
- Reports to: Head of Engineering
- Scope: Feature Engineering team - you will help shape, grow, and lead it
- Direct reports: 3-5 engineers (backend, frontend, mobile) as the team scales
Key Responsibilities
Feature Delivery & Technical Leadership
- Own end-to-end delivery of product features across backend APIs (.NET Core / C#) and frontend (Angular) - from design through to production
- Set and enforce engineering standards across the feature team: code quality, test coverage, API design, branching and review practices, and release readiness
- Drive sound architecture decisions at feature scope - data modelling, service boundaries, API contracts, caching strategies.
- Debug issues across the full stack; lead resolution during incidents and drive blameless post-mortems that produce lasting fixes
- Ensure all features are built with performance, scalability, and reliability in mind, meeting the NFR standards defined by the Platform team
Quality, Testing & Non-Functional Requirements
- Champion a test-first culture: unit, integration, and E2E coverage are non-negotiable parts of the definition of done, not an afterthought
- Partner with the Platform EM to adopt and uphold platform-defined NFR standards covering performance, observability, security, and compliance across all feature work
- Embed security-by-design thinking into feature development: input validation, auth enforcement, dependency hygiene, and sensitive data handling
People Leadership & Delivery
- Build the Feature Engineering team: lead hiring end-to-end, run structured interviews, make sound hiring decisions, and onboard new engineers effectively in a startup environment
- Run regular 1:1s, give timely and honest feedback, and actively support each team member's career growth across all seniority levels
- Manage performance actively - recognise strong contributors, address issues early, and build a high-trust, high-accountability team culture
- Own team delivery against roadmap commitments: sprint planning, estimation, risk management, and clear communication of progress and blockers to the Head of Engineering
Cross-Functional Partnership
- Partner with Product and Design to refine requirements, push back on scope where appropriate, and translate product priorities into well-defined engineering work
- Collaborate with the Platform EM to consume platform services effectively and surface feature team needs that should become platform capabilities
- Contribute to engineering-wide decisions on process, tooling standards, coding practices, and team culture alongside peer Engineering Managers
- Represent the engineering perspective in cross-functional planning, providing realistic estimates and flagging delivery risk early
What We're Looking For
Required
- 7-10 years of software engineering experience, with meaningful time building and shipping product features across the full stack
- Strong hands-on experience with .NET Core (C#) for backend development and Angular for frontend - you can review, write, and reason about code in both
- Solid understanding of relational databases (PostgreSQL or SQL Server) and NoSQL stores (MongoDB or similar), including data modelling for scale
- Prior experience leading or managing a team of engineers, including hiring, performance management, and career development
- Proven track record of delivering product features reliably, with strong ownership of quality, testing, and release readiness
- Security-aware engineering mindset: you treat input validation, auth, and dependency hygiene as engineering fundamentals, not extras
- Comfortable operating in ambiguity and driving clarity in a startup or scale-up environment where processes are still being built
Nice to Have
- Experience in Construction Tech, PropTech, or other asset-heavy or field-operations verticals
- Experience with mobile development on iOS and/or Android is a plus.
- Exposure to cloud infrastructure (AWS preferred) and CI/CD tooling at the feature team level - enough to collaborate effectively with a Platform team
- Experience working in organisations with a dedicated platform or infrastructure function, and a track record of consuming platform services effectively
